Are you looking for a quick way to cool off this summer? It doesn’t have to be in a pool (although that’s always a plus). Instead, put on some sunblock and head down to your favorite local ice cream shop. But with so many to choose from, which one is the best? We did the hard work for you and put together a list of the seven best ice cream shops in San Joaquin County. If one of these is in your hometown, get the heck outta the house and get your ice cream already!
We got a special request for a ” Death by Chocolate” Sundae two scoops of our delicious homemade chocolate ice cream,…
Lots of San Joaquin locals come to The Big Dipper for their summer ice cream fix – but this place also gets a lot of people stopping by on their way to Yosemite and other popular summer camping destinations. The Big Dipper offers a killer assortment of handmade ice creams, including their “milkshake of the moment.” This is usually a more extravagant flavor assortment, like the Double Shot Shake with coffee ice cream blended with a Starbucks double shot, espresso beans, and a cookie straw. If that isn’t enough to make you interested…we don’t know what else is.

If you’re not really feeling traditional ice cream and want to get on that never-ending froyo craze, then try out Tigers Yogurt in Stockton. They offer a variety of flavors (that you can mix and match, of course) as well as endless toppings so that no two froyo bowls are ever a like. What’s our favorite flavor combo? Salted caramel corn mixed with cookies and cream. Yum! Note that this place is cash only, so be prepared with plenty on hand.

One of our favorite San Joaquin County ice cream shops, Aldo’s Italian Ice & Gelato is more than meets the eye. Sure, they have your usual assortment of creamy gelatos and Italian ices, but they also have sorbetto to cater to the non-dairy crowd. Oh, and have you heard of the al-dough? If not, you’re welcome because you’ll definitely want to check this out. The al-dough is a giant donut ice cream sandwich, you choose the gelato flavor and toppings. Let that get your brain juices flowing and your mouth watering!

This is an awesome old fashioned ice cream shop with a twist. They offer mainly Mexican style desserts, like mangonadas and bionico. They also have unique flavor combos like a waffle topped with cotton candy ice cream, whipped cream, fresh fruit, and flavored syrup. Just thinking about us makes us wish we were there right now. If you want to be adventurous with your dessert, check out this ice cream shop in San Joaquin County.

What’s one of the most unique ice cream shops in San Joaquin County? It has to be Segale’s Double Dip Gallery. This shop offers a selection of fine art AND fine ice cream, making for the ultimate pairing of the eyes and tastebuds. They serve Gunther’s ice cream inside the shop, and have a big selection of flavors like blueberry cheesecake, peanut butter cup, salted caramel, ginger, horchata, and also the petite petit sirah sorbet (made just for Double Dip Gallery). Enjoy some Gunther’s ice cream and check out the art that’s on display the next time you’re out for a lazy summer stroll.

Sunset Sweets offers Hawaiian style shaved ice with ice cream, making for a creamy afternoon treat this summer. There are TONS of flavors, like tigers blood, peach, pineapple, lemon lime, watermelon, and more. You can also ask for a flavor combo (we like the tropical twist, which has tigers blood, peach, and pineapple). They get their ice cream from Gunther’s in Sacramento, so you can enjoy their famous flavors right in Lodi. For a new experience for all the ice cream lovers out there, try Sunset Sweets. There’s definitely something for everyone there.
